Tesshu Yamaoka Tesshu Yamaoka (1836 to 1888 ; from Edo period to Meiji Period) Mission Impossible ; The Tokugawa shogunate’s last envoy
Tesshu Yamaoka might well be called James Bond of Japan. He was an actual one of Japan’s most historical person, but for some reason his distinguished services were unexpectedly so unknown even in Japan.
March 1868 Tesshu came from Edo(Tokyo) as a messenger on a special mission. On the way to Suruga(Shizuoka) there was a lot of rebellion armies but Tesshu kept on the speedy walking very carefully like Mr. Bond.
Unfortunately he was confronted with here Satta pass. Some of the rebellion armies found him. He returned and went downhill rapidly and knocked the door of Bougakutei, an old-established guesthouse which the most prestageous historical stage. Yamaoka was especially welcomed by Shichirohei, the master of Bougakutei.
Shichirohei decided to change Yamaoka’s clothes for let him disguise from Bushi to a fisherman. The revolver and Katana were not suitable for a fisherman hence Yamaoka left them by the intention of Shichirohei. Actually Shichirohei was not only the Bougakutei’s master but also shipowner.
Yamaoka quickly spared clothing and went to the Kura-Zashiki(the special guest room). As a matter of fact, there was a particular shelter under the Kura-Zashiki.
Yamaoka went down through the stairway from a secret tiny entrance hidden by small Tatami. Shichirohei opened the Shelter door to the sea shore of the dark Pacific ocean. Shichirohei said, “You should go with the man named Eibei(a fisherman). From the Shimizu port Jirocho will guard you. Good luck, gentleman.”
Fortunately Yamaoka could meet Takamori Saigo due to the help of some brave men. Yamaoka’s negotiation ability was sky high, and Saigo’s power of observation was so grate. The two men’s meeting was fantastic and invited Japanese “No side, No Blood Revolution”.
The revolution is called “MEIJI ISHIN”.
